Is the okonomiyaki vegetarian? No fish, pork, chicken and beef??
Authentic however it’s filled with foreigners. we only wanted to order one okonomiyaki ( there were 2 of us) to share but we were told each person per order. I ordered vegetable teppanyaki ( 2 carrot, 2 leeks, 2 thin slices of pumpkin) for 700 yen. Could have had better elsewhere
MoreSuch a traditional experience. Staff are very attentive and friendly. Delicious okonomiyaki!
MoreLoved the experience of making your own savoury pancake in this authentic restaurant. Lovely staff who accommodated us even though we didn't speak Japanese. Go early if you want a table!
MorePretty unique dining experience for Tokyo as this is one of few wood house restaurants left in the area.Having said that the food was nothing special and a little over priced. This place seemed very popular for tourists. Did not see a single Japanese person in here...
MoreHidden Okonomiyaki gem close to Asakusa station. Good place for foreigners to cook their own Okonomiyaki at the tables equipped with an iron griddle or teppan. Most of the staff speaks basic conversational English. Till last year end (December) they only accepted cash payment.
MoreAside from the absolutely delicious food, staff were very friendly and helpful. This was my first Okonomiyaki experience so they showed me how to do everything and kept coming back to check that I was OK. Great vegetarian options too 😊
MoreVery best Okonomiyaki Restaurant I've been in Japan. Unlike many other restaurants, you get to make your own okonomiyaki so it is fun as well.Their building is old (authentic and full of history) so they do not have a proper AC so ot gets hot but it is worth the visit. Price is good as well. You must order one dish per person.
MoreCame across Sometaro by accident after visiting the ‘utensil street’ Excellent friendly staff and very good food. We were made very welcome and did not want to leave ! You take shoes off at the door and sit on the floor. Highly recommended. We were the only foreigners in the restaurant.
MoreLove the okonomiyaki here! Reasonable price with a very authentic atmosphere
Very good food, however prices are rising every year. Probably in the near future it will be more of a tourist attraction than restaurant. All in all, one of the best place to “experience” okonomiyaki.
MoreThe dining experience was a let down. The service is poor, at least for tourists. As soon as we finished eating we were asked to leave, although we have spent only 5 minutes there and there were other people no longer eating longer than us (Japanese). Not to mention we have stood in the queue for about 50 minutes. The food was average. The interior was the only thing I liked.
MoreVisiting Sometaro's is like taking a time trip to the Showa Era. Okonomiyaki is a communal meal with those accompanying you. Cooked on a griddle in the center of the table, it is especially comforting in the winter but is fun anytime.
MoreAuthentic okonomiyaki place. Traditional taste, not many variation on the menu. Good price. Has English menu and the staff is friendly. You can either cook it yourself or ask the staff for assistant. Nice local experience if you pass by this neighborhood.
MoreTraditional restaurant, floor seating, great staff, fry yourself and about 1000 yen cash only
MoreThe best meal experience we had during our honeymoon in Japan. Delicious food, fun experience, and welcoming service. We were encouraged to make our own okonomiyaki (other places we went to in Japan would not let us cook it ourselves...) and they gave us tips for making it taste best! Cash only, no credit cards.
MoreGreat food and the staff knew a bit of english which was great!
Very cozy and it has the best okonomiyaki I've ever had in the area. The servers were really nice and helpful as well. Definitely coming back!
MoreThe tepanyaki was great! Okonomiyaki was ok, too little meat :(
Arrived at about 4pm, so there was no crowd. Take off shoes before you enter and cook your own dishes. Staff was having their break time during our time there so service was not exceptional unfortunately. I didn't really like the fact that you weren't allowed to buy extra toppings. So you can't have a seafood okonomiyaki and add on say, rice cakes. The interior looks very old and well loved. Taste is nothing amazing but I guess people find it fun to cook and make their own food. I feel it's more of a novelty to come here, most probably will not return.
MoreCute place with very nice Okonomiyaki! A bit hot inside but with fans its tolerable because it becomes a part of the experience. The place is popular and there’s a risk that you will have to wait 1-2 h for a table. Its worth it.
MoreFriendly staff and good food, which you fry on your own barbecue at the table. I liked the okonomyaki pretty much! I definetly would return to this restaurant, which seems to be popular amongst tourists.
MoreSuper friendly and welcoming place. There's an excellent English menu with easy explanations on how to make my own Okonomiyaki dish, which turned out delicious! Thanks again to the cute and friendly host who helped me out!
MoreReally nice okonomiyaki spot near Sensoji, very friendly proprietors.
Very nice people and food. It was fun making it by yourself.
Good food, great ambience in a old jap house. Service was excellent
Very nice and authentic place: wooden floors, tatami. I went around 2-3 pm, and there was only one more table occupied (by Japanese people). You flip your pancake yourself, while the staff helps when needed. Tasty : )
MoreOishi okonomiyaki. Cook your own on a hot plate Really friendly staff.
Quaint little shop in a quiet neighborhood. Long wait but the fare was pretty delicious. The staff gave clear instructions on how to prepare our own Okonomiyaki. You can ask them to help you with that...
MoreMy brother found this place online and just had to try this authentic style Japanese eatery. It opens at 12. So we had to walk around for a bit more when it was already incredibly hot. No shoes inside. We sat on the floor. The sign outside said “no ac very very hot” and we still went it. The food is very flavorful. If you ever had a egg fu young from a Chinese restaurant it’s almost the same but on a skillet. Though there is a language barrier. Their hand gestures on how to cook and apply the sauce was on point. There and hand fans available as well as eat table has a table electric fan. They were very nice to shelter a group of tourist out of the rain
MoreI happened to find this place when I was looking for a Okonomi-yaki restaurant around Ueno/Asakusa area.It seems very popular so I wanted to take my friend visiting Japan.Long story short, this will be the first time and the last time to go there.I have never had Okonomi-yaki that small and tasteless.Very stingy.Atmosphere is really good though.Shame.
MoreFine place to experience okonomi yaki and yakisoba. Japanese style, sitting on the floor. Cash only.
MoreI must admit it was almost awkward to realise how touristy this restaurant was : the vast majority of customers were groups of foreign visitors, which is not a bad thing in itself of course ! The okonomiyaki were very good and the place is adorable ! I imagine making people cook their own okonomiyaki allows the restaurant to feed a lot more people than it would under normal circumstances, and I think it could be particularly appreciated in a cold weather since the heating tables are super hot ! Only the concept itself seems to appeal to foreigners way more than Japanese people.
MoreLovely place! Went on a Sunday night and did not have to wait. Friendly staff. Place has no aircon but it was perfectly fine with a pint of beer. must try !!
MoreThis was such a fun experience, great food, excellent staff. You take your shoes off at the door, put them in a bag and take them to the table. It was warm in the restaurant; which was heated by the individual griddles at each table. You order and mix the batter for your savory pancakes then cook it yourself. Dress it with sauce you brush on, mayonnaise, and too with seaweed flakes. Delicious and so fun!
MoreFriendly and good English menu yet feels authentically Japanese with a great atmosphere. Is very warm so dress accordingly. Loved the Okonomiyaki
MoreFriendly and good for tourists. Traditional style, you take your shoes off at the entrance. They will help you cook it. Cash only. No AC, so it can be very hot, just drink water or beer!
MoreVery traditional japanese okonomiyaki restaurant, delicious!
Very nice staff, food very good, toilets are squat ones but easy to use unless you cant squat with feet flat and balance.
MoreDelicious; a great experience if you're just touring Japan. English menu, several vegetarian options, friendly staff and cool setting.
MoreWonderfull evening with a DIY okonomeyaki!! Very Delicious!! Greetz from GER tourists!!
MoreNo air conditioner, a bit too hot. But the food overall is nice. You got to make your own food so worth a try :)
MoreBeen to Japan twice and have been here both times. Such good food and very interactive. Recommend ordering a nice cold beer or another type of beverage as it does get hot in from of the hotplate
MoreGreat service and love the ambience! Ordered the okonomiyaki, yakisoba and the scallop teppanyaki. The butter they use for teppanyaki is wonderful
MoreA beautiful and authentic restaurant. The food was delicious and the staff was so kind and helpful in showing us how to make the okonomiyaki. One of our favorite experiences in Tokyo!
MoreThis restaurant has an unfair policy : every person in it must order at least one dish.My girlfriend doesn't eat this kind of dishes and I was polite enough to warn the waiter about it before any cooking. As a result, the manager refused to cook anything for me..I wanted to taste a real good okonomiyaki, bad luck.I believed there were a superior kind of service attached to this kind of business. False. This was my first and only bad experience in Japan.
MoreOne of my favourite places to go to in Tokyo. First time was in 2007 and the last was 2018 and it was still really good. And it use to take me forever to find it after that. But thanks to Google maps these days, I've saved it and highly recommend it to all my friends visiting Tokyo. Such a wonderful experience.
MoreIt's famous for a reason. Incredibly delicious and the staff's personality are just as sweet! You're given a batter with the requested toppings to mix and pour onto the pan. Came here twice but the one before summer was more memorable I'd say. Note to self: there are only fans and during the summer it's really really hot inside!
MoreThis is one of many amazing places in Tokyo for authentic japanes eating experience, you'll take your shoes off and will cook your meal (don't worry the staff are very friendly, speak English and they will help you out and instruct you as needed). Super tasty a d enjoyable.Prices are fair so it's not pricey at all.
MoreI loved this place! An old building converted to a restaurant. Super nice and accommodating staff. I would suggest going in winter though
MoreA simple and quite place. Great food.
